Our Mission Statement: to Worship, Grow, Serve Christ, and Spread the Gospel.

This tree describes our mission statement and what we believe:
Worship: the roots remind us to dig deep in the Word to have a strong foundation in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Grow: be intentional about Bible study for the purpose of developing your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Serve: be involved on a Ministry Team to use your spiritual gifts and abilities to give back to the church and community.
Spread: live your life in such a way that it makes a difference for the kingdom of God. Be prepared to share your faith to tell others about what Jesus Christ has done for you.
Mission Emphasis:
Responding to Christ’s command to “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost…” First Baptist Church actively supports both local and foreign mission activities and programs of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Locally, our members go out into the community to the unsaved and unchurched. The church supports community needs, such as Friends of the Homeless, Association of Congregations (AOC), Inter-Church Outreach (ICOR), Spanish missions, and Kinston Federation of Churches. The church also started several churches such as Spilman Memorial, Glen Raven, Immanuel, Rivermont, Calvary, and Neuse Chapel, all of which are thriving churches today.
Through awareness of the vast home and foreign mission programs of our Southern Baptist denomination, mission study groups are maintained throughouut the church. The Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), Baptist Men, Children-In-Action (CIAs), and Mission Friends are active groups within the church.
ACTS 1:8 Focus:
We seek to carry out the taching of Acts 1:8 that says, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
To that end, First Baptist has partnered with 4 organizations to better enable us to carry out this focus.
- Jerusalem (our local community): Eastern Pregnancy Information Clinic (EPIC)
- Judea (our state of NC): The Refuge Camp
- Samaria (our nation): Widows Harvest Ministries
- Ends of the earth (our world): Hands & Feet Ministry Haiti Orphanage
It is our desire to be intentional about the practice of our Mission Statement and we invite you to join us in this spiritual journey.
